Romanian state railway CFR has awarded a consortium of Webuild and Salcef a €441 million contract to modernise the 55 km Ronat – Arad Nou line section in western Romania. The contract includes the section’s modernisation and double-tracking, along with the construction of a 635 m bridge with a 180 m central span over the Mures River, as well as a series of eleven other bridges, four highway overpasses and six stations. The contract covers lot 4 of the Caransebes – Timisoara – Arad upgrade project, which is part of a wider programme covering the Rhine-Danube Corridor of the Trans-European Transport Network TEN-T. Earlier in November 2022, CFR awarded the consortium, in which Webuild holds a 72.2% stake, a contract for lot 3 worth €291 million for works between East Timisoara and Ronat.
