Webuild and Hitachi to build Altavilla – Vicenza HSR line section

Italian infrastructure manager RFI has awarded a contract to build a smaller section of the Verona – Vicenza – Padua high-speed rail (HSR) line. For €1.82 billion, the consortium of Webuild (83%) and Hitachi Rail (17%) will build a 6.2 km section from Altavilla on the HSR line to Vicenza's main station and renew 4.8 km of existing lines. The first construction contract for the HSR line was awarded in summer 2020, and construction work on the 44.2 km Verona – Altavilla section of the 76.5 km Verona – Padua line is currently around 35% complete. The remaining 26 km from Vicenza to Padua are still in the planning phase. The total costs are estimated at €4.8 billion.
