VLR track laid for load testing in Coventry

A sensor-equipped section of track developed for the Very Light Rail (VLR) project in Coventry has been laid for load testing at Whitley Depot. The track is shallower than conventional Light Rail Transit (LRT) tracks and is laid 300 mm deep into the road surface. The track was developed by the University of Warwick in collaboration with Coventry City Council, French construction company Ingerop Conseil et Ingénierie and its UK subsidiary Rendel. Load tests will be realised for one year to assess the performance of the track.
