Project promoter Rail Baltic has signed contracts with a joint venture (JV) of Verston and Järelpinge Inseneribüroo for the construction of the main section of the railway line in Rapla County, Estonia. The construction work has a total value of €107 million for more than 16 km of track. The first section, which starts at the border of Harju and Rapla counties and ends in the village of Loone in Kohila municipality, is 9.4 km long. In the second phase of construction in the Rapla district, a 7.1 km railway embankment with drainage systems, two eco-ducts, a road viaduct, and two railway viaducts, as well as almost 5 km of noise barriers will be built. This phase also includes a unique 224 m railway bridge in Estonia. In the Loone – Hagudi section, the Rail Baltica line crosses the existing Edelaraudtee corridor. Up to 85% of the construction contracts are being financed by the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF) programme. Construction work is scheduled to begin in summer 2024 and be completed by autumn 2027.
