Sweco wins planning contract for LRT line in Turku

Sweco has been awarded a contract for design services for the first light rail transit (LRT) line in the Finnish city of Turku. The contract also includes the planning of 19 stations and is worth €6 million. The project will enter the development phase in April 2024. The LRT line will run from Turku's port via the city centre to the Varissuo district, covering a total of 12 km with 19 stops and a depot in the Iso-Heikkilä area. Construction work is currently expected to be carried out between 2026 and 2031. The total volume of the project is expected to be over €344 million, including equipment and machinery worth €42 million.
