French state railway SNCF announced on 21st June 2023 that the new Paris – Berlin high-speed rail (HSR) service will pass through Saarbrücken. According to the announcement, the line will not pass through Strasbourg, despite the demands of local parliamentarians, which were supported by the French Ministry of Transport. According to parliamentarians from the French Grand Est region, SNCF and German state railway DB made the decision jointly. This announcement comes just weeks after the French transport ministry asked SNCF to reconsider the routing so that the new French-German service could run via Strasbourg.
