SNCF founds subsidiary SNCF Renouvelables to generate solar power

French state railway SNCF has founded a subsidiary named SNCF Renouvelables. This subsidiary will be dedicated to developing and installing renewable energy capacity on SNCF land. The state-owned company will generate this energy itself by installing solar power plants, mainly to power part of its buildings and the railway network. SNCF aims to install around 1,000 MWp of photovoltaic capacity by 2030, which can cover 15-20% of its current electricity needs.
