PKP PLK plans to automate track inspection by 2032

The Polish infrastructure operator PKP PLK is planning to introduce an automated monitoring system (AOT) for track inspections on the Polish rail network by 2032. The automated documentation is intended to speed up the analysis of faults and improve the accuracy of measurements. For the inspections, flat wagons are equipped with measuring devices, sensors, and cameras, which are pulled or pushed by a railcar at a speed of at least 100 km/h. The AOT system collects the data and analyses it using artificial intelligence (AI). The system will be introduced in four phases, with two depots receiving a flat wagon by the end of 2027 and a total of eight flat wagons, including one as a replacement wagon, being distributed by the end of 2032. PKP PLK is currently preparing an open tender.
