Network Rail and ProRail renew partnership to develop rail technologies

UK rail infrastructure company Network Rail and its Dutch counterpart ProRail signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in The Hague on 18th August 2023 to continue their partnership and develop technological enhancements such as automated inspections and acoustic monitoring using fibre-optic cables. The two companies have been working closely together for several years on new technologies, including the ERTMS Level 3 vehicle signalling system and fibre-optic acoustic sensing, building on an MoU signed five years ago. Developments created between the two companies over the past five years, such as FOAS, will continue. In the future, the two companies aim to make advances in digital railways, asset management, measurement trains, and embankment stability.
