Modernisation of the Chabowka – Nowy Sacz line with Poland's longest tunnel

The Polish infrastructure operator PKP PLK has signed a contract to modernise the line between Chabowka and Nowy Sacz, which includes the construction of the longest tunnel in Poland. Work on the section between Limanowa and the Kleczany siding should be completed by 2026. The consortium of Budimex, Gülermak Agir Sanayi Insaat ve Taahhüt, and Gülermak will carry out the modernisation, with a deadline of 31 months set for the completion of the work. Most of the line will be re-routed and will include a tunnel almost 3.8 km long, which will significantly reduce travel time. As part of the modernisation, more than 12.5 km of track will be renewed and electrified. New stops and a railway station will be built, ensuring accessibility for people with reduced mobility. Once the work is complete, passenger trains will be able to travel at speeds of up to 160 km/h and goods trains at 100 km/h. The investment of over €440 million (PLN 1.9 billion) is part of an extensive infrastructure project to modernise the 75 km Chabowka – Nowy Sacz line, which will also include the construction of a new 58 km line linking Krakow with Podhale and the Sacz region.
