Mobility companies set up task force to strengthen mobility in the EU

Eighteen European mobility companies and start-ups have joined forces to form a task force for future mobility in the EU. Members include the rail transport and bus company Flix and the mobility distribution platform provider Omio. The task force was founded at a meeting with European Transport Commissioner Adina Vălean in Brussels on 19th January 2024. The aim of the initiative is to make recommendations to political decision-makers for the next legislative period of the European Parliament and the Commission in the area of innovation and start-ups in the transport sector. Nick Brooks, Secretary General of the association of private rail operators Allrail, criticises the status quo in European passenger rail transport, which is stagnating despite annual subsidies in the billions. For successful implementation, strong regulation is required that enables faster market liberalisation, fair access to funding and data accessibility in order to create a standardised European rail network.
