MIT announces infrastructure investments in Sicily and Calabria

On 23rd August 2023, the Italian Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (MIT) announced investments of €75 billion for the development of roads, highways and rail networks in Sicily and Calabria. In Sicily, investments of €13 billion are planned for the rail network, including the new Palermo – Catania – Messina high-speed rail (HSR) line, connections with Trapani Birgi and Fontanarossa airports, and the Caltagirone – Gela line. In Calabria, MIT plans to invest €34.8 billion in the rail network. This includes €15.9 billion for the modernisation and electrification of the Salerno – Reggio Calabria line, and €230 million for the modernisation of the Battipaglia – Reggio Calabria line, the Cannitello bypass line, and the Rosarno – S. Ferdinando line.
