Manelli Impresa to modernise Caltagirone – Niscemi line section

Italian infrastructure manager RFI has awarded Manelli Impresa the first lot for the modernisation of the Caltagirone – Gela railway line. The lot includes design and construction works for the line section from Caltagirone to Niscemi. The contract is worth about €66 million and is financed by the National Plan for Reconstruction and Resilience (PNRR). The section, about 20 km long, crosses the provinces of Catania and Caltanissetta and requires works to adapt the structures along the line, such as tunnels, ditches and embankments, as well as the restoration of the passenger building of Niscemi station and its adaptation to the requirements of accessibility for people with reduced mobility. The works also include the two contracts for the reconstruction of a viaduct and the seismic retrofitting of the other viaducts between Caltagirone and Niscemi.
