Kontron secures order for GSM-R expansion

The Austrian technology company Kontron has been awarded a contract worth €34 million for the expansion of the GSM-R train radio network in the Czech Republic. The company will expand the existing digital radio network, which is operated by the state infrastructure operator SZ, to include the section between Hranice and the Slovakian border. The project will run for around three years and is scheduled to begin in March 2024. The aim is to create a functioning GSM-R network for the use of the European Train Control System (ETCS) Level 2. This includes the planning and construction of 29 base stations as well as integration into the transmission network and the performance of tests. The work is being carried out in cooperation with specialised subcontractors.
