Swiss company Furrer+Frey will renew the overhead catenary equipment on the Tyne & Wear Metro network under a five-year contract with transport authority Nexus. The work will use an adapted version of the FL200-light design, based on home market equipment but adapted to meet the requirements of the Newcastle and Sunderland Light Rail Transit (LRT) network. The refurbishment work is due to start later in 2023, and will be supported by Furrer+Frey's new UK office and assembly facility near Nottingham.
