EU launches India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor with international partners

At the G20 event on 9th September 2023, the European Union (EU) together with the United States, India, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) launched the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. This corridor aims to connect the three regions through modern connectivity infrastructure and strengthen economic ties between them. In addition, the improvement of transport links between the Katanga region in the Democratic Republic of Congo and the Copper Belt in Zambia to the port of Lobito in Angola was announced as part of the Trans-African Corridor. Both projects are part of the Global Infrastructure and Investment Partnership PGII, launched at the G20 Summit in Bali in 2022. Under its flagship Global Gateway programme, the EU plans to invest a total of €300 billion in connectivity projects over the period from 2021 to 2027. More than 90 projects have already been identified in Africa, Latin America and the Caribbean, Asia and the Pacific, and the Western Balkans.
