EC and EIB propose standard-gauge lines to Lviv and Chisinau

The European Commission (EC) and the European Investment Bank (EIB) have published a study proposing the introduction of standard-gauge rail lines to Lviv and Chisinau, in order to improve connections between Poland, Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova. Land transport links with the European Union (EU) have become crucial for Ukrainian imports and exports since Russia invaded Ukraine. The study analysed remaining barriers to interoperability. As a first step, the study proposes to establish a standard-gauge line from Krakow and Katowice in Poland to Lviv in Ukraine, and from Iasi in Romania to Chisinau in Moldova.
