Draft railway reform law published for comment

The UK Government has published the draft Railway Reform Bill to gather feedback from MPs and the industry. The Bill is a step towards implementing the government's reform proposals, which include the creation of Great British Railways (GBR). However, the Bill is not expected to be passed before the next General Election, which must take place no later than 28th January 2025. The House of Commons Transport Committee will scrutinise the Bill and then present its conclusions and recommendations for the government to comment on. Passage of the Bill would create GBR as the central railway authority, pooling responsibility for infrastructure and train services. GBR is intended to ensure unified accountability and replace the current split between Network Rail and the Department for Transport.
