DB plans to modernise the network in Berlin-Brandenburg

German state railway DB is continuing the modernisation of the rail network and stations in the Berlin-Brandenburg region in 2024 in cooperation with the federal government and the states of Berlin and Brandenburg. In 2024, several construction projects will be completed and progress will be made on projects in Berlin and Brandenburg. These include the completion of Ostkreuz station, the opening of the remodelled Potsdam-Pirschheide station and the completion of work on the Frohnau – Oranienburg S-Bahn line. In summer 2024, the modernisation of Berlin-Schöneweide station will be completed and the new Oder bridge in Küstrin-Kietz will be put into operation. The new S-Bahn line S15 between Gesundbrunnen and Berlin Hauptbahnhof will be introduced with the timetable change on 14th December 2024. On the Hamburg – Berlin line, the first major maintenance of the high-speed line will take place from 16th August to 14th December 2024. The general refurbishment of the line is planned for August 2025 to the end of April 2026, at a cost of up to €2.2 billion. The Riedbahn railway between Frankfurt am Main and Mannheim will also undergo a general overhaul in summer 2024, which should have a positive impact on the Berlin-Brandenburg metropolitan region.
