DB launches infrastructure programme 2024

German state railway DB has announced an infrastructure programme for 2024 that provides for the renewal and modernisation of over 2,000 km of track, 2,000 points, 150 bridges, and 1,000 stations. As part of the Group's Strong Rail strategy, the infrastructure company DB InfraGO AG will implement these measures in order to increase the performance and robustness of the rail network. In addition, DB plans to hire 5,500 new employees for maintenance and expansion. The first general refurbishment of a high-performance corridor will begin on 15th July 2024 on the Riedbahn between Frankfurt/Main and Mannheim. A total of 40 such refurbishments are planned by 2030. The total investment in the rail infrastructure for 2024 alone amounts to around €16.4 billion, which will be borne by DB, the federal government, and the federal states. Digital railway operations are also being driven forward with the construction of modern signal boxes, with the first digital signal box already in operation in Donauwörth.
