DB awards contracts for Riedbahn project

Following a Europe-wide tendering process, German state railway DB has awarded the construction works for the general renovation of the Riedbahn line between Frankfurt/Main and Mannheim to four companies. The companies Leonhard Weiss, Spitzke, Swietelsky, and Siemens Mobility will completely renew the approx. 70 km line over the next five months, including tracks, switches, overhead lines, and safety technology. The work, which will be realised during a closure of the Riedbahn corridor, is divided into two lots: Frankfurt/Main – Biblis and Biblis – Mannheim. In addition, all 20 stations along the line will be modernised and more than 15 km of noise barriers will be built. The total cost of the project is €1.3 billion, of which €1.1 billion is secured in the federal budget.
