Council of Ministers approves tender for Bobadilla – Ronda upgrade

The Spanish Council of Ministers has approved an investment of €68 million for the existing Bobadilla – Algeciras line. This will enable the Ministry of Transport (Mitma) to tender the modernisation and adaptation of the 43 km Bobadilla – Ronda section via infrastructure manager Adif. The works include the replacement of ballast, sleepers and track, the adaptation of the clearance gauge of the overpasses for the future electrification of the line, as well as the reinforcement of the infrastructure and drainage works. Spain plans to invest €472 million in upgrading the 176 km Bobadilla – Algeciras broad-gauge line to a strategic corridor for rail freight, and €320 million have already been mobilised. The line provides access to the country's main port, Atlantic and Mediterranean corridors.
