Mark Thurston, CEO of HS2 Ltd, has announced his retirement at the end of September 2023. Since March 2017, Thurston has been CEO of HS2 Ltd, the project developer of the high-speed rail (HSR) line named HS2. Following Thurston's resignation, HS2 Ltd chair Jonathan Thompson will act as executive chair for an interim period while a successor is sought. Thurston's departure follows the government's announcement in March 2023 that it would delay the delivery of HS2's Phase 2a from Birmingham to Crewe by two years.
