Agreement to improve rail interoperability

The Australian Government, the Victorian State Government, and the Australasian Railway Association (ARA) have signed a cooperation agreement to improve national rail interoperability. This is intended to give rail a greater role in the national economy and improve competitiveness. The cooperation agreement commits rail operators, designers, manufacturers, and transport ministries to work together, especially on major rail investments in the future. The government will soon appoint a National Rail Advocate and a Rail Industry Innovation Council to implement the plan.
