Telangana approves third phase of Hyderabad metro

On 1st August 2023, the cabinet of the Indian state of Telangana approved the third phase of the Hyderabad metro network. The programme worth €6.7 billion (INR 600 billion) includes the extension of the network by an additional 278 line-km, which includes 142 line-km on eight radial corridors and a 136 km orbital ring. The radial lines include line 1 from the BHEL settlement to Isnapur and line 6 from Tarnaka to the ECIL crossroads. The western section of the future ring line is currently being constructed as line 5 under the second phase of the metro programme. Under the third phase, another four sections will be built from Shamshabad to Pedda Amberpet and from there on to Medchal, Patancheruvu and Narsingi. Funding from the national government is being sought for the programme.
