Construction of the new high-speed rail (HSR) route between Zhangzou and Shantou began on 4th February 2024. The 176 km long route connects the provinces of Fujian and Guangdong and includes a total of seven railway stations. After its planned completion in 2028, the new line will connect to the existing HSR lines Shantou – Guangzhou and Fuzhou – Xiamen – Zhangzhou. The construction project will cost around €5.2 billion (CNY 40.1 billion).
