Start of construction for Gyeryong – Sintanjin suburban rail line

The South Korean state railway KR has started construction work on the 35.4 km long suburban rail line that will connect Gyeryong in the southwest with Sintanjin north of Daejeon. The project, which costs around €180 million (KRW 259.8 billion), includes the construction of six new stations, including Deokam, Ojeong, and Jungchon, as well as the renovation of six existing stations, including Gyeryong and Sintanjin. Operation is scheduled to begin in 2026, with 65 train journeys per day in each direction using two-car electric multiple units (EMUs). In addition to the start of construction, two feasibility studies have been launched to investigate the extension of the suburban rail line from Sintanjin northwards to Jochiwon and from Gyeryong south-westwards to Ganggyeong.
