Siemens awarded metro electrification projects in Ahmedabad and Surat

Rail technology supplier Siemens Mobility, in a consortium with Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), has been awarded two contracts by Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRCL). These comprise the electrification works for the further expansion of phase 2 of the metro network in Ahmedabad as well as phase 1 of the metro in Surat. Both cities are located in the western Indian state of Gujarat. Siemens's order volume within the consortium amounts to approximately €75 million. Phase 2 in Ahmedabad comprises two corridors with a line length of more than 28 km, a total of 23 stations and a depot. The length of the line under construction under phase 1 in Surat includes 38 stations and two depots with a total length of more than 40 km. Siemens will also supply advanced digital systems such as Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) for both metro systems.
