Several new metro and LRT projects inaugurated

Several metro and light rail transit (LRT) projects have been inaugurated in India. These include the 6 km long section of the Agra Metro, which comprises 27 stations. The total cost of the 30 km, two-line Agra Metro project is estimated at €930 million (INR 83.8 billion). The European Investment Bank (EIB) is supporting the financing with a loan of €449 million. Other inaugurated projects include the East-West Metro line in Kolkata, a section of the Pune Metro, and the extension of Phase 1B of the Kochi Metro. In addition, a 17 km section of the Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) between Delhi, Ghaziabad, and Meerut was put into service, which now covers a total of 34 km of the system and enables speeds of up to 160 km/h. In addition, the track doubling and electrification of the 22 km section between Sanathnagar and Moula Ali in the state of Telengana was completed, which is now in operation with automatic signalling and allows passenger trains to run on this line for the first time.
