Korail completes electrification of Gyeongjeon Line section

South Korean state railway Korail has completed the electrification of a 55.1 km section of the Gyeongjeon Line between Jinju and Gwangyang. Under a contract worth €119 million (KRW 168.3 billion), works on the project started in 2019. After the scheduled completion of all works on the double-track section in late 2024, Korail will start operating high-speed trains (HST) of the KTX-leum brand on the line. The works are planned to reduce journey times between Jinju and Gwangyang by 25 minutes.
