JR Kyushu introduces track inspection solution from AMD

US technology company Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has entered into a collaboration with Japanese railway company JR Kyushu to improve the rail inspection process with the help of the Kria K26 system. The solution based on artificial intelligence (AI) is designed to increase the effectiveness and accuracy of safety inspections on the Japanese operator's high-speed rail (HSR) network. JR Kyushu, which manages a railway network of over 2,340 km, previously carried out manual rail inspections. In order to increase safety, the company has now opted for a technological solution that uses a computer mounted on rails. This utilises the AMD Kria K26 System-on-Module (SOM) for fast image processing and advanced AI to identify anomalies such as loose bolts.
