IR plans to extend rail lines to China

The Indian state railway IR is planning to extend the rail network in the state of Arunachal Pradesh to China and connect neighbouring Bhutan. The planned line will run from Bhalukpong to Tawang along the Chinese border and from Silapathar to Along via Bame. In addition, the line to Murkongselek is to be extended to Pasighat. IR also plans to build a second line from Lanka to Chandranathpur in the state of Assam. The planned link to Bhutan will run 58 km from Kokrajhar in Assam to Gelephu in Bhutan. In total, railway projects worth EUR 13.6 billion (INR 1,150 billion) are planned in north-east India.
