Installation starts of Japanese J-Slab system on Mumbai – Ahmedabad HSR line

Installation of the Japanese J-Slab system on India's high-speed rail (HSR) line between Mumbai and Ahmedabad has begun, the National High Speed Rail Corp Ltd (NHSRC) announced on 17th September 2023. This marks the first time that this system will be used in India. Construction work on the ballastless reinforced concrete track bed has begun in Surat. In March 2021, NHSRC and Japan Railway Track Consultants Co signed a Memorandum of Understanding on track design for the 237 km Vadodara – Vapi (Package T2) section of the future Mumbai – Ahmedabad line. By the end of August 2023, more than 14,000 t of rails and 50 moulds for the manufacture of track panels have already been delivered from Japan. Japan Railway Technical Services will train and certify Indian employees in track laying.
