The 240 km Guangzhou Dong – Shanwei high-speed rail (HSR) line was opened at the end of September 2023. For the new line, additional tracks were laid alongside the existing four-track line over 53 km from Guangzhou Dong to a junction east of Xintang. The Xintang – Zengcheng section is designed for a speed of 250 km/h, and the last section from Zengcheng to Shanwei for up to 350 km/h. The line is connected to the existing four-track line at Xintang. In Xintang, there is a connection to the Guangzhou metro line 13 and the Guangzhou – Shenzhen intercity service. The HSR line serves a total of seven intermediate stations and includes 53 tunnels and 121 bridges.
