The Chinese government has issued its final approval for the construction of a 1.3 km western extension of the Tung Chung Line including one station on the metro network in Hong Kong. Under the plans presented by operating company MTR on 10th January 2023, the line is to be extended from Tung Chung to Tung Chung West, while the Tung Chung East station will be built between Sunny Bay and Tung Chung. Civil works are expected to start in 2023 with completion scheduled for 2029.
