Fuzhou – Xiamen – Zhangzhou HSR line starts operation

The new Fuzhou – Xiamen – Zhangzhou high-speed rail (HSR) line on the west coast of the Taiwan Strait started operation at the end of September 2023. The 277 km line, built with an investment of €7 billion (CNY 53 billion), has a 20 km section that crosses the sea and three coastal bays: Quanzhou Bay, Meizhou Bay, and Anhai Bay. The high-speed trains (HST) stop at stations in the cities of Fuzhou, Putian, Quanzhou, Xiamen, and Zhangzhou, reducing travel time to less than 1 hour between Fuzhou and Xiamen. The project involved the construction of 84 bridges and 29 tunnels, accounting for 85% of the total length.
