First section of GTX-A suburban rail line in Seoul opened

On 30th March 2024, the first section of the Great Train Express (GTX) suburban rail network in the Seoul metropolitan region was opened. The 28 km section of the GTX-A line connects Suseo with Dongtan. Seoul Metro was selected as the operator of the GTX-A line, while national operator Korail is responsible for maintenance. Infrastructure operation is the responsibility of the private company SG Rail, which acts as the project promoter on behalf of the owner Korea National Railway (KNR). The GTX-A line, which runs entirely in a tunnel, is being built and equipped by 40 subcontractors, including HJ Shipbuilding & Construction. The 82 km line with 11 stations is to be opened in stages and will ultimately connect Unjeong in the north-western suburb of Paju with Dongtan in the south-east of the Seoul metropolitan region.
