On 28th December 2022, the Bangladeshi government opened the first metro line in the capital Dhaka. The 11.7 km first line designated as line 6 runs on an elevated north-south alignment from Uttara North to Agargaon along nine stations. A share of 75% of the project costs of €2.65 billion (US$2.8 billion) were financed by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
