Delay of the Chuo Shinkansen maglev railway until 2034

The opening of the 286 km long Chuo Shinkansen maglev line between Tokyo and Nagoya, which was planned for 2027, has been delayed until 2034 at the earliest. This was announced by the operator Central Japan Railway (JR Central) on 29th March 2024. The project is intended to enable speeds of up to 500 km/h. Once the line is completed, the journey time between Tokyo and Nagoya should be reduced to 40 minutes, more than halving the journey time of Shinkansen high-speed trains (HST).
