On 7th June 2023, construction started on the 47 km Pyeongtaek – Osong double-track high-speed rail (HSR) line. The HSR line includes a 34 km tunnel, 6 km of bridge sections and has a design speed of 400 km/h. The project's budget is €2.2 billion (KRW 3.18 billion) and completion is scheduled for 2028. The two line operators, Supreme Railways (SR) and South Korean state railway Korail, have already ordered 31 high-speed trains (HST) from Hyundai Rotem for the line, to be delivered by February 2028.
