On 18th October 2022, a groundbreaking ceremony took place for the Chuncheon – Sokcho high-speed rail (HSR) line. The project costs EUR 1.69 billion (KRW 2.4 trillion) and is scheduled to open in 2027. The line will run mainly in tunnels, and will allow a top speed of 260 km/h. Plans for the line were approved in 2016.
