Construction work on the 30 km fully-automated Blue metro line in Dubai has been officially approved. The estimated cost of completion is €4.5 billion (AED 18 billion). The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has already invited expressions of interest for a construction contract, as well as for the supply of 28 metro trains and the construction of a depot with capacity for up to 60 metro trains. The contract is to be awarded in 2024 so that tunnelling can begin in 2025. Test runs are scheduled to begin in 2028 and the line is due to open for regular service in 2029.
