Construction of Almaty bypass railway is progressing on schedule

In Kazakhstan, a project to build a bypass railway line from Žetigen to Kazybek beka is progressing, which is intended to relieve the Almaty railway junction. The measure is intended to reduce transport congestion at the junction by 40% and at the same time significantly shorten delivery times for freight. Work is currently underway on sections of the new line, which will have a total length of 75 km, while the station tracks are being extended to 50 km. A total of 125 km of railway line is planned for completion of the entire project. The project involves more than 100 pieces of specialised equipment and around 300 workers to complete the work on the current 20 km sections. The project also includes the construction of 18 bridges, a motorway crossing at the Žetigen station and 49 water pipes of various sizes and shapes, which will require 6.5 million m³ of earthworks.
