On 31st August 2023, Chinese state railway CR opened the remaining 307 km Nanning – Libo section of the 482 km Nanning – Guiyang high-speed rail (HSR) line. Construction of the line, which includes 13 stations and is part of the north-south corridor from Baotou to Yinchuan and Haikou, began in December 2017, with the first 175 km Libo – Guiyang section already put into operation on 8th August 2023. With the opening of the new line for speeds of 350 km/h, travel times from Nanning East to Guiyang East were reduced from over five hours to slightly under three hours. The new railway line serves regions where more than 30 ethnic groups live, and significantly improves rail connectivity in southern and south-western China.
