APM to invest at least €184 million in expansion of Poti seaport

APM Terminals is planning to invest at least €184 million (US$200 million) in the Poti seaport expansion project. The Georgian government had previously authorised the signing of an agreement with the terminal operating company. The expansion of the port, which will take place to the north of the existing harbour, is to be carried out in several phases. Part of the investment will go towards modern technology and equipment, including fully electric ship-to-shore cranes, which will be used for the first time in Georgian ports. The expansion is expected to increase the capacity of the Poti seaport by at least 400,000 TEU per year, bringing the total capacity to over 1 million TEU. The first phase of the project includes the development of a 6.8 ha container storage extension, a new 330 m quay, a 1.5 km breakwater, dredging works for the access channel, and the installation of two ship-to-shore cranes. Construction is scheduled to take up to 36 months.
