On 25th June 2023, the government of Bangladesh and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) signed a loan agreement worth €368 million for the Chittagong – Cox’s Bazar railway line. The loan is to be paid as a multi-tranche financing facility and has a principal repayment period of 20 years. The project includes the construction of a new 102 km rail line section between Dohazari and Cox’s Bazar, as part of the Chittagong – Cox’s Bazar line in the south-east of Bangladesh. In addition, the government is modernising the 47 km Chittagong – Dohazari line section using its own funds.
