Acceleration of GTX route extensions agreed

The South Korean Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (Molit) has reached an agreement with six local governments from the provinces of Gyeonggi and South Chungcheong to speed up the extension work on the GTX-A and C lines. The GTX-A line is to be extended by 20.9 km from Dongtan to Pyeongtaek-Jije. Two extensions have been proposed for the GTX-C line: a new 9.6 km line from Deokjeong to Dongducheon and a 59.9 km extension from Suwon to Asan. Feasibility studies for the extension of the GTX-A line are scheduled to begin by the end of February 2024. The GTX-A and C line extensions are exempt from preliminary feasibility studies as the local governments are funding the projects themselves. This could shorten completion by up to four years and allow the extensions to open in 2028.
