Suburban rail line planned for Monterrey

The Mexican government and the government of the Mexican state of Nuevo León have signed a contract with the North American railway company Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) to introduce a suburban rail line through Monterrey. The approximately 75 km suburban rail line is to be built largely parallel to the existing rail freight transport line between the cities of Pesquería and García via the centre of Monterrey. There are 26 stations planned for the connection, which will be designed for passenger trains travelling at speeds of up to 100 km/h. The total investment for the project is €1.42 million (MXN 26.65 million) and has been included in the investment programme of the Mexican Ministry of Finance.
