Rumo abandons plans for bypass route

The Brazilian railway company Rumo Malha Paulista has presented a new project for the use of a line through the towns of Cedral, Rio Preto, and Mirassol. The plans for a planned bypass route, which was part of the concession award, have been cancelled. The Brazilian National Land Transport Agency (ANTT) has yet to approve the project. According to the timetable, construction work on the line should be completed by 2028 and is expected to cost around €94 million (BRL 500 million). Work is scheduled to begin near the Favela Marte, including the construction of a road overpass and a pedestrian passage in Jardim Conceição. The change to the proposal will not affect the continuation of the Trem Caipira regional train service. However, the cancellation of the bypass route makes the implementation of a Light Rail Transit (LRT) impractical.
