Piauí to have Teresina metro network modernised

The government of the Brazilian federal state of Piauí has signed a service order for the modernisation of the Teresina metro network. The project foresees the double-track expansion along the entire line, which is supposed to result in an increase in the number of passengers from 4,000 to 12,000 per day. The stations will be modernised and five new metros will be procured. In August 2023, the government signed the work order for the construction of a new 2.5 km metro line on the Teresina network. According to Piauí-based railway and logistics company CFLP, there are also plans for a new extension project of another 1 km, which will reach the Todos os Santos district.
